PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

Our company is seeking a Senior Data Engineer for an ongoing engagement to help maintain and enhance key data pipeline infrastructure used by our engineers and analysts. This role will support the Data Transformation and Data Ingest domains within our larger engineering organization.

  • 6 hours overlap with EST.

MAIN REQUIREMENTS:

You are:

  • Experienced working with data pipelines in Databricks (ideally within Google Cloud Platform). You have 2+ years of experience working with lakehouse architecture in Databricks and 5+ years overall building data pipeline infrastructure. You are comfortable working with large structured and unstructured datasets and have exposure to Iceberg or Delta table formats. You have spent time optimizing Spark jobs to improve performance and manage cost.

  • Comfortable writing production Python and SQL. You have 3+ years of experience writing production Python (or Scala) code to ingest, wrangle and transform data. You are comfortable reading and understanding data models. You understand standard CI/CD concepts and advanced SQL.

  • An excellent communicator. You have strong English proficiency and are comfortable taking requests from stakeholders and translating them into clear technical requirements. You enjoy collaborating with analysts and other internal teams to proactively resolve their data issues and build tools that help make their processes more scalable and efficient.

  • A self-starter. You thrive on tasks that require you to extend yourself and learn new technologies and concepts. You take proactive ownership over the tasks assigned to you and always aim to leave the codebase in a better state than you found it. You are not afraid to provide solutions to complex problems.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain and improve the major components for our data lake. Quickly learn the existing systems that are central to our core business. Understand the common issues that engineers and analysts encounter when operating with the existing infrastructure and how to prioritize them. Participate in roadmap planning and execution for optimizing existing features and building new ones.

  • Have a key role in managing our Databricks platform. Assist analysts to move their workflows to Databricks and optimize them. Help build and maintain our Unity Catalog. Own initiatives to scale infrastructure, manage permissions and control costs.

  • Collaborate with a team of engineers, data scientists, and product managers. We operate in a highly collaborative environment, which means you’ll interact with internal domain experts, product managers, engineers, and data scientists on a daily basis.
